Farm survey is a process of drawing out an adequate farm process from the resources on the farm. These resources include the topography of the land, size, area and structures on a piece of land.
A good farm survey will pave the way for an adequate plan for the farm.
Similarly, Farm planning is the figuring out of the farm structures and how they will be located on the farm.
When farmlands are measured, the position and possibility of every structure are driven out. Structures that can not be moulded on the farmland will have to remain away to generate effective yield.
Also, the mapping out of this farmland allows for the proper use of every space in farmland. It would not be that a particular area will be left unused due to unplanned activities.
The purpose of farm surveys and planning is very huge. It comes with so many guaranteed functions for the farm. Proper survey plus a good proportion of planning will generate multiple outputs later on.
However, many farmers do not know about farm surveys. They have never tried to think about how the best can come from their farm.
Even those that know about this don’t do this to their farm. It seems insignificant but very important to successful farmers.
Why Is Farm Survey and planning Important?
Farm survey and planning has several importance for which will produce better output from your farm. You will even have more authority on your farmland with Farm Survey. Here is the significance of farm surveys and planning?
1. Size Determination:
If farm land is leased or purchased by a farmer, the size must be determined. The determination of the six of the farms gives the farmer insight into how to share each part.
This size determination is also used for the feasibility study of the farm. The data of the farm size is used to see where a required structure should be. How farm structures should be arranged.
2. Proper use of farmland:
You don’t want to waste your land after the determination of farm size. This is because the spacing of structures, ridges and holes for each crop can waste the land. Lacking the knowledge of where each structure should be located is another problem. Once you have the size of your farm, you can draw out the layout and build each structure on paper before you start the preparation action of n the farm. Note the locations of farm buildings, farmsteads and many other things (even if you would have a building where you store machines, you will have to add it). Immediately you have that layout drawn out, you can now map your passageways and many others so that the planted crops won’t be destroyed later on.
3. For Soil Classification:
Some crops can only survive in a soil type. Not just a soil type, that soil will be very distinct but might be classified under the same soil type as others.
What you will need to note there are the soil PH, soil structure, soil texture, percolation, capillarity and so on.
You don’t just go for loamy soil for some crops, you need the very unique introduction. For instance; moist, dark, humus-rich loamy soil is required for some soil.
While some might also need something dry to survive but also rich in humus and a clear loam. This is different and qualifying both can lead to loss due to unplanned or lack of farm survey.
4. For Farm Security:
A land can be said to be secured when it has an issued certificate of the owner. This way the farmer can have a good say over the farmland when irrelevancies or arguments come up.
Only farmland that has been surveyed can have the perfect fact for a certification. Without this survey, the facts might not be correct. Unfortunately, when conflicts come up over the certificate of that land can be termed illegal.
So, a good farm survey facilitates proper planning for the future. This proper planning is the acquisition of Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) that might be needed in the future.
5. Forecast of Yield:
What makes one farmer different from another is how they forecast yield. With the survey done properly and the fact has been figured out. A farmer will know how to give optimum effort to his farm to generate the maximum amount of income from it.
