Lil Nas X’s Age, Bio, Net Worth, Career And Personal Life

Lil Nas X is the stage name of Montero Lamar Hill, an American rapper and vocalist. His most famous song is the country rap track “Old Town Road,” which went viral in early 2019 before going global and earning a diamond certification by November of the same year. The song held the number-one spot for the longest period of time since 1958, spending 19 weeks at the top of the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. The only musician to do so while holding the top spot on the Hot 100 was Lil Nas X, who came out as gay while the song was at number one.

After this achievement, Nas went on to release a number of additional successful singles, including “Panini,” “Rodeo – Cardi B & Nas,” “Industry Baby ft. Jack Harlow,” and “That’s What I Want,” among many more. Additionally, he has released two hit records: his debut EP, “7,” and his debut studio album, “Montero,” both in 2021. At the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards, Nas X had the most nominations of any male artist and went on to win for Best Music Video and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. He received two MTV Video Music Awards for “Old Town Road,” including Song of the Year and Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Song. He was listed on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in 2020 after being nominated by “Time” magazine as one of the 25 most influential people online in 2019. Additionally, he is the first openly gay black musician to receive a Country Music Association honor.

Lil Nas X – Career

Between 2015 and 2017, Nas made it known that throughout his teenage years, he started to avoid “outside-of-class activities.” To promote his work, he started spending a lot of time cultivating an influencer following, although his originality was questionable. He talks about making funny videos for Facebook, switching to Instagram, and eventually mastering Twitter in an interview with Rolling Stone. Twitter was “the first site where I could go viral,” he said. Additionally, he posted little comedic videos on Facebook and Vine.

According to New York Magazine, he established and managed several Nicki Minaj fan profiles on Twitter, including one dubbed “NasMaraj.”

The account acquired popularity in 2017 for its interactive “scenario threads” in the flash fiction form that were made popular on Twitter by the dashboard tool TweetDeck.

NasMaraj was connected to the practice of “Tweetdecking,” or making certain tweets artificially popular by using numerous accounts. Due to “violating spam policies,” Twitter suspended the “NasMaraj” account.

Nas switched his attention to music in 2018 and began creating and recording songs. In honor of the artist Nas, he adopted the stage moniker Lil Nas X. Lil Nas’ debut mixtape Nasarati was made available on SoundCloud on July 24. After the release of Old Town Road, Nasarati was taken off streaming services due to a copyright issue. He happened to hear the beat that would later become “Old Town Road” in late October 2018.

The song “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X was released on December 3, 2018.

He paid $30 for the Dutch producer YoungKio’s beat, which features samples from the Nine Inch Nails song “34 Ghosts IV” from their sixth studio album Ghosts I-IV (2008).

He recorded it in less than an hour for $20 in a little Atlanta studio called CinCoYo (they had a bargain every Tuesday called $20 Tuesdays).

Before TikTok users started to use “Old Town Road,” Nas started to promote the song using memes.

To promote it, Lil Nas X thought he created over 100 memes.

Early in 2019, the #Yeehaw Challenge meme on TikTok helped the song become popular. Millions of people shared videos of themselves in western-themed outfits, with the majority of the #yeehaw videos featuring the song as their soundtrack.

The song debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at number 83 before rising to the top.

Additionally, the song debuted at positions 19 and 36 on the Hot Country Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts, respectively. In March 2019, Lil Nas X joined Columbia Records. When Wrangler unveiled its Lil Nas X collection in May 2019, racism in country music culture once more came to light, and many people threatened to boycott the company. The song “brings attention to the past cultural erasure of African-Americans from both country music and the American frontier era,” according to media reports.

Billy Ray Cyrus, a legend of country music, provided backing for “Old Town Road” and was the featured vocalist in the first of many remixes in April 2019. With 143 million streaming for the week ending April 11, Lil Nas X beat Drake’s previous record for the most American streams from a single song in a week. The video was published in May 2019 and has already received over 640 million views.

On June 20, 2019, Nas’s second single, “Panini,” was made available via Columbia Records. The first remix of “Panini” featuring rapper DaBaby was released in the middle of September 2019. On June 21, 2019, Lil Nas X released his first extended play, named 7. The EP debuted on the Billboard 200 list at position number two. Lil Nas X and Cyrus performed together on June 23, 2019, at the 2019 BET Awards. At the annual Glastonbury Festival in the United Kingdom on June 30, Lil Nas X made his worldwide debut when he and Billy Ray Cyrus made an unexpected appearance and joined Miley Cyrus for the song before playing “Panini.” Early in July, Rolling Stone debuted the Rolling Stone Top 100, featuring three Lil Nas X songs: “Rodeo,” “Panini,” and “Old Town Road,” the first song to ever reach number one on the chart.

On July 10, he posted online hints about the impending release of the song “Call Me by Your Name.” He revealed a new song, “Holiday,” on November 8, 2020, and it was released on November 13. The song’s music video had millions of views in its first few weeks, and it debuted at number 37 on the Billboard Hot 100. He published the children’s book C Is for Country in January 2021. The following month, he gave fans a sneak peek at “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” in a Super Bowl LV commercial. A music video and the song were both formally launched on March 26, 2021. Lil Nas X announced that his debut album, “Montero,” will be published in the middle of 2021 on the same day. Lil Nas X’s third top-ten hit and second Billboard Hot 100 number-one single, “Montero (Call Me by Your Name),” debuted at the top of the charts.

As shown in the “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” music video, Nas teamed up with the New York-based art collective MSCHF to create a unique pair of Nike Air Max 97s dubbed Satan Shoes on March 29, 2021. Only 666 pairs, each costing $1,018 each, were produced. Nike claimed that they were not involved in the development or marketing of the shoes and that they did not support the views of Nas or MSCHF. A prelude video for the song “Industry Baby” was later released by him. On May 21, 2021, Nas released the song “Sun Goes Down.” The following day, he played the song at Saturday Night Live alongside “Montero (Call Me by Your Name).” On July 23, the song “Industry Baby,” produced by Take a Daytrip and Kanye West, featured rapper Jack Harlow. The song became Lil Nas X’s third number one hit and his fourth top ten single when it debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in the second week of October 2021.

Release day for Montero and its fourth single, “That’s What I Want,” was set for September 17, 2021. Lil Nas X unexpectedly showed up during Diplo’s performance at the Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas on October 23, 2021. He performed “Industry Baby,” “Montero (Call Me by Your Name),” and “Old Town Road” while making an appearance.

Nas revealed two songs from his “nearly finished” new album on March 16, 2022: “Down Souf Hoes,” featuring Saucy Santana, and “Late to the Party,” featuring YoungBoy Never Broke Again. Additionally, a preview of the song “Lean on My Body” was published. He launched his first concert tour, dubbed “the Long Live Montero Tour,” on April 26, 2022. The Montero support tour will take place from September to November 2022.

Lil Nas X – Personal Life

On April 9, 1999, Montero Lamar Hill was born in Lithia Springs, Georgia. He was given the Mitsubishi Montero as his name. When he was six years old, his parents divorced, and he moved in with his mother and grandmother in the Bankhead Courts housing project. Three years later, he relocated to Austell, Georgia, north of the city, where he now lives with his gospel singer father. He considered it to be a significant choice, and at the age of 13, he began “using the Internet to a large extent, when memes started to become their own sort of amusement.”

He resorted to the internet, mainly Twitter, during his lonely adolescent years to create memes that displayed his endearing humor and pop-culture knowledge. During his adolescent years, he also struggled with his sexual orientation, but by the time he was 16 or 17, he had come to terms with it. In the fourth grade, he started playing the trumpet but soon gave it up out of concern for “looking uncool.” He completed his high school education in 2017 at Lithia Springs. Later, he attended the University of West Georgia with a computer science major but left after a year to pursue music. He was supporting himself at the time by working at Six Flags Over Georgia and Zaxby’s restaurants. He was living with his sister. He made a surprise concert appearance at his high school in September 2019.

Lil Nas X came out to his sister and father at the beginning of June 2019 because he believed “the cosmos was signaling him to do so,” even though he was unsure of how his followers would react. Lil Nas X openly came out as gay on June 30, 2019, the final day of Pride Month, tweeting: “Some of you already know, some don’t care, and some have stopped going [f*** with me]. But I want you all to pay great attention to c7osure before this month is out.” He first hinted at this in his single “c7osure,” which the tweet later verified.

He revealed that he is gay and is aware that the country and rap music scenes do not readily embrace homosexuality in an interview with BBC Breakfast.

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, but it also attracted a lot of homophobic remarks on social media, to which he responded. It also originated from the hip hop scene, calling attention to homophobia in the genre. Pastor Troy, a rapper, made homophobic remarks about Lil Nas X’s attire at the Grammy Awards in January 2020. Lil Nas X responded, “Damn I look nice in that pic on god,” to Pastor Troy’s remarks. Atheist “at one point,” according to Lil Nas X, who is now “a very spiritual person in terms of the Universe, how everything works.”

It’s unclear whether he’s in a relationship right now. The public doesn’t have access to adequate information on this.
